This glass negative, made in 1921, is a half-length portrait catalogued under the name "Owens, half., G.W.", a label the National Photo Company applied to the negative or its sleeve and that the Library of Congress has not verified. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio active from the 1910s through the 1930s, produced large numbers of portraits and news photographs on glass plates like this one. The negative shows streaks and blemishes from the natural breakdown of its original coating, and the collection came to the Library as a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French.
