Hoffman, New York, is the subject here, pictured in 1921 on a glass negative that survives from the National Photo Company's large commercial output. The company, based in Washington, D.C., produced views of towns, landmarks, and events across the country in the early twentieth century, and its negatives were often used for postcards and publications. The record's title comes from data written by the company on the negative sleeves, which has not been independently verified. Streaks and blemishes from the aging of the original coating are visible in the glass, and the negative came to the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947.
