The only identifying detail in this record is the surname "Schwartz," which appears as a title taken from unverified notes on the negative or its caption card, so the sitter, place, and occasion remain unconfirmed. It is a single glass negative, a format that Bain News Service, the New York press photography agency run by George Grantham Bain in the early twentieth century, used widely for news and portrait work. Those negatives were sent out to newspapers and magazines, so many images in the collection were made to be reproduced quickly for daily publication. Glass plates like this one are fragile, and their survival is part of what makes the collection valuable to researchers.
