Among the many Bain News Service portraits on this board, this glass negative records a British peer, Lord Aberconway, whose title came from caption cards that the record itself describes as unverified. Charles McLaren, 1st Baron Aberconway, was a Liberal politician and industrialist in Britain in the early twentieth century. Bain's studio, a commercial news photography service in New York, supplied newspapers with such portraits of visiting and prominent figures. The image survives as a small glass negative, a format that gave sharp detail and was standard for press work of that era.
