This glass negative shows Nicholas Longworth, the Ohio congressman who later served as Speaker of the House, seated on horseback. The record gives the title from Bain News Service caption information that has not been independently verified, so the identification rests on that source. Bain News Service was a New York picture agency that sold news and feature photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and its images of prominent men often captured the public and social life of Washington. Longworth, who married Alice Roosevelt in 1906, was a familiar figure in the capital, and riding was one of the pastimes he was known for.
