Thanksgiving postcards were a staple of the early twentieth century, when the holiday was still gaining national shape and printers mass-produced cheerful color scenes for people to mail to friends and family. Cards like this one typically paired a harvest motif, such as cornucopias, turkeys, pumpkins, or autumn leaves, with a short greeting in ornate lettering. Many were printed in Germany and the United States during the golden age of the postcard, roughly 1900 to 1915, when sending a card was a quick, inexpensive way to stay in touch. Notice how the bright palette and decorative borders reflect the taste of that era.
