Pilgrims and a cornucopia of harvest vegetables fill this postcard's design, which wishes its recipient "Best Thanksgiving Wishes" in the bold lettering typical of the form. Holiday postcards like this one were a popular way to send seasonal greetings in the early twentieth century, when printers produced them in large runs with stock illustrations of turkeys, pumpkins, corn and the Mayflower settlers. The Pilgrim figures stand for the 1621 harvest feast at Plymouth, which by the late 1800s had become a national symbol of gratitude and family gathering. Notice how the image mixes historical costume with produce, a common approach that turned an old colonial story into a cheerful decorative scene.
