Its German title, *Sammelt die Obstkerne*, asks viewers to gather fruit pits, and the poster shows girls doing the collecting. By 1916 the British naval blockade had cut Germany off from imported fats, so wartime authorities and civilian groups turned to fruit stones, which could be pressed for oil. The lithograph is one of many appeals that enlisted children and young people in the home front economy, and it shows how scarcity was presented as a patriotic duty.
