This silkscreen announces *East Side West Side*, a photography exhibition held at the Federal Art Gallery on West 57th Street in Manhattan from September 20 through October 4, 1938. The Photography Division of the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project organized the show as part of a federal program that put artists and photographers to work during the Depression. The WPA's art projects made heavy use of silkscreen because it could turn out inexpensive, multicolor posters in quantity. The title, which names the city's two sides, suggests the exhibition was concerned with contrasts between neighborhoods and the lives within them.
