Few wartime posters are tied to a single week as closely as this one. Its dates, November 11 through 18, 1918, put the campaign's start on the same day the Armistice ended the fighting in Europe. The United War Work Campaign pooled the fundraising of several wartime welfare organizations, including the YMCA, to support troops at home and overseas. The slogan "Lighten his load" speaks to the soldier who would be waiting on that help, while the appeal to "give and give and give" reflects how the drive asked civilians to keep contributing even after the guns fell silent.
