Keep him smiling!" promises a soldier a bit of cheer, and the poster ties that promise to food and drink, one of the everyday comforts that canteens and recreation huts offered American troops. It was produced for the United War Work Campaign, a combined fundraising drive held November 11 to 18, 1918, which joined several wartime service organizations, including the YMCA, YWCA, Salvation Army, and Knights of Columbus. The dates made the campaign's timing notable, since the armistice was signed on November 11, the drive's opening day. The lower right corner of this print is missing, so part of the original design and text is lost.
