Titled "Suffrage farmers," this glass negative ties rural life to the fight for women's voting rights, a pairing the record does not explain further. The Bain News Service, a Manhattan-based photo agency, documented politics, public events and daily life in the early twentieth century, and its negatives often reached print through newspapers and magazines. The title comes from caption data the archive has not verified, and no date is recorded. Suffrage campaigns in the 1910s reached farm communities through rallies, petitions and state referendums, and the movement's push ended with the 19th Amendment in 1920.
