Titled "Unser Kaiser" (Our Emperor), this 1916 color lithograph advertised a painting exhibition in Vienna, and its catalog subjects note roses alongside the emperor's name. It appeared in the last year of Franz Joseph I's long reign, which ended with his death in November 1916, while Austria-Hungary was deep in the First World War. Posters like this one, drawn by artists such as A. Karpellus, were a common way for wartime Vienna to honor the monarch and draw visitors to cultural events. The record does not describe the exhibition's contents, so those details remain unclear.
