This silkscreen poster advertises a Federal theater Project road show of Channing Pollock's *The Fool*, a play that first reached Broadway in 1922. Its subject tag places the production in California, where the Federal theater Project sent touring companies to smaller towns and communities that rarely saw live drama. Created in 1936 under the Works Progress Administration, the poster belongs to a federal effort that put unemployed actors, designers and craftspeople to work. The bold color blocks typical of WPA silkscreen work make it a good example of how the program used commercial-style advertising to bring theater to a wide public.
