Dated December 11, 1923, this portrait shows Frank H. Hitchcock, who served as Postmaster General under William Howard Taft from 1909 to 1913 and later stayed active in Republican politics. It was made in Washington, D.C., during the period when the National Photo Company was documenting the capital's officials and public figures. The album record credits Herbert E. French, one of the company's photographers, and the print shows how Washington presented its political men to the public in the years after the First World War.
