This print shows a balloon carrying the Goodyear name, a reminder that the rubber and tire company was also involved in lighter-than-air flight in the early 1900s. Balloons of this period were built from rubberized and varnished fabric, and companies that sold tires and rubber goods had a natural interest in the material. Ballooning was then a popular public spectacle, with races, exhibition ascents, and advertising flights drawing crowds to fairgrounds and open fields.
