The title names the Deutscher Heimatbund, a German homeland association, and the abbreviated "Po" most likely refers to Posen, the eastern province where German residents faced a bitter postwar struggle. In 1919 the Treaty of Versailles was assigning much of the province to the newly restored Polish state, and the Greater Poland Uprising had swept through the region that winter. Groups like this one rallied German-speaking communities to defend their language, property and claims to a place they regarded as home, so the picture reflects a movement shaped as much by the peace settlement as by the war itself.
