Richard Croker and Thomas Collier Platt, two of New York's most prominent political bosses in 1897, appear here as hungry supplicants waiting for scraps from a Thanksgiving turkey. Louis Dalrymple drew this color lithograph for the cover of *Puck*, the satirical weekly published by Keppler & Schwarzmann, in the issue dated November 24, 1897. The joke works on two levels: the holiday feast stands in for the spoils of office, and the begging pose suggests that the bosses depend on patronage rather than command it.
