Richard Croker of Tammany Hall and Thomas Platt, the Republican leader, appear here as beggars waiting for scraps from a Thanksgiving table. *Puck*, the satirical weekly known for its color lithographs by Keppler & Schwarzmann, ran the drawing on its cover for the November 24, 1897 issue. The joke relies on patronage: two men who controlled city and state jobs and nominations are shown reduced to hoping for leftovers, a reversal that would have amused readers who followed the bosses' rivalry.
