Few sheets on this board place three separate playhouses side by side, and this ink drawing shows the Gaiety, a burlesque house, together with the Academy and the Capitol in downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania. Dated to about 1930, it is a technical drawing from the Library of Congress's architectural and engineering collection, so its value lies in the exact placement of each building rather than in decoration. Penn Avenue was a busy entertainment stretch in those years, when burlesque, vaudeville and the newer movie houses competed for the same crowds.
