One sheet here brings together three downtown houses: the Gaiety, a burlesque theater on Penn Avenue near Spruce Street; the Academy on Wyoming Avenue near Linden Street; and the Capitol, also on Penn Avenue near Spruce. Drawn in ink on paper around 1930, it belongs to the Library of Congress's Architectural and Engineering drawings, which document building plans and facades rather than street life. Scranton's theater blocks in the 1920s and 1930s mixed burlesque, vaudeville and new movie houses, so the sheet records a downtown where live performance and film competed for the same crowds.
