The title, *Presens Rustiques*, is French for "rustic gifts," and the print is credited to an engraver named Marcus, whose "sc." (short for *sculpsit*, "he engraved it") marks him as the cutter of the plate. Engravings of this kind were produced in quantity in the mid-seventeenth century, when printmakers across Europe found steady buyers for images of rural labor, festivity, and village customs. Prints from these decades are often valued for showing how ordinary country people dressed, worked, and spent their time, and they are worth studying closely for those details.
