The "Cave of the Winds" was a path at the foot of the Bridal Veil Falls on the American side of Niagara, where visitors could descend from Goat Island and stand in the spray beneath the falling water. Geo. Barker, a Niagara Falls photographer, made this albumen print in the late 1880s and stamped his name on the mount, as commercial view makers of the period often did. Tourists typically wore rain gear and followed guides over the wet rocks to reach the base, and the picture conveys how the site drew crowds eager for a close look at the falls' power.
