Dr. Fisher of the Biological Survey is the subject named here, though that title comes from notes the National Photo Company wrote on the negative sleeve and has not been independently verified. The Survey was a federal research unit in the Department of Agriculture that studied the distribution of birds, mammals and plants, and the company's Washington studio recorded many government workers in the early 1920s. The glass plate shows streaks and blemishes from the slow breakdown of its original coating, a common condition for negatives of this age.
