Printed in silkscreen on board and sponsored by the Federal theater Project, this 1937 poster shows the process the WPA poster division leaned on. Silkscreen, also called serigraphy, was inexpensive and suited bold, flat areas of color, which made it practical for posters in short runs. A date stamp on the back, February 9, 1938, records a later date than the print year. The record ties the sheet to art exhibitions in New York during the 1930s, when federal arts programs used posters to draw audiences to events.
