The St. Louis Cardinals of 1911 were a club still searching for a winning identity, and a panoramic team picture from that season captures the roster as a single lined-up group rather than a set of individual portraits. Panoramas like this were popular in the early twentieth century, when teams and fans liked to see every player, coach and manager arranged side by side, often in front of a ballpark or a grandstand. Look closely at the spacing and posture of the men; the formal lineup reflects how team photographs were staged before action shots became common. The image offers a useful record of who was on the club that year.
