A War Bond Parade is one of the many street processions staged to sell government bonds during the world wars, when marches with bands, floats and marching units were a common way to draw crowds to buy them. This negative is part of the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by the Bain News Service, a photo agency whose work mostly dates from the early 1900s through the 1920s and documents American news and daily life. The record gives no date or location, and the title comes from unverified notes on the negative or its caption card, so the exact parade is unknown. Glass plates like this one were the standard working medium of news photographers of the period, and they often preserve sharp detail in crowds and street scenes.
