The title gives the place as Guilford, but the Bain News Service recorded that name as unverified, so the record does not confirm which Guilford is meant. The negative is a glass plate of 5 by 7 inches or smaller, the format the agency used for quick news pictures in New York in the early 1900s. George Grantham Bain founded the service around 1899, and it supplied photographs of people, buildings and events to newspapers until the 1920s. Without a date or caption detail, the picture is best understood through the agency's general work of that period.
