The only name attached to this glass negative is Zimbalist, a title Bain News Service recorded on its caption cards and one the Library of Congress has not verified. The surname most likely refers to Efrem Zimbalist, the Russian-born violinist who toured widely in the United States. Bain's New York operation supplied newspapers with portraits of performers and public figures, and a concert artist fits that pattern. Glass negatives of this size kept fine tonal detail that editors valued.
