The poster's title, "Jump into your place in the Sportsmans Company of the Irish Canadian Rangers," shows how Canadian recruiters in 1914 tried to draw men into specific local units by appealing to athleticism and community loyalty. This color lithograph, roughly 99 by 62 centimeters, was made the same year Canada entered the First World War and began raising volunteers for the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Its recruiting message, aimed at men who saw themselves as sportsmen, reflects the early enthusiasm for enlistment before the scale and cost of the fighting became clear. The record also notes a former German owner, the Rehse Archiv für Zeitgeschichte und Publizistik, a reminder that wartime posters from many countries were collected and studied well beyond their original audiences.
