Few wartime posters argue as bluntly as this one, which tells viewers that loyal talk will not defeat Germany and that men and money will. Issued in 1915, it urges Canadians at home to give to the Canadian Patriotic Fund, a voluntary fund started in 1914 to support the wives, children and other dependents of soldiers serving overseas. With only text and no picture, the poster rests its force on the message, which treats enlisting and paying as two equal ways to serve. Canada's army was still made up of volunteers, so the call to pay reached people who could not or would not enlist.
