Unlike most posters on this board, this one has no illustration at all: its message rests entirely on the printed words "Fight or pay that others may fight" and the challenge "British freedom or Prussian militarism. Which?" The poster asks Canadians at home to contribute money to the Canadian Patriotic Fund, which was created in 1914 to support the wives, children, and other dependents of men who enlisted for overseas service. In 1915, when recruitment and fundraising drives were central to the war effort, such direct appeals were common, and this one frames a donation as a way of taking part in the fight.
