Claire Farry is named as the diver, but the record notes that this title comes from unverified information on the negative or its caption card, so the identity and the dive itself still need confirmation. The picture is a glass negative from the Bain News Service, a New York press agency founded by George Grantham Bain around 1899 that supplied newspapers with photographs of news events, athletes and public figures into the early 1930s. Glass plates were the standard medium for press photographs of that era, and the agency's working years offer the best clues for placing this image in time.
