Poster no. 21 in its series shows a lion, a long-standing British emblem of strength, urging viewers to back the empire with their savings. Printed by Sir Joseph Causton & Sons in London and issued by the Parliamentary War Savings Committee, this color lithograph is dated 1915. It belongs to a wider effort to persuade ordinary households to lend money to the government instead of spending it. Britain paid for much of the First World War through borrowing, and campaigns like this one turned the cost of the conflict into a civilian duty. The bold color and direct slogan show how these posters tried to make investing feel patriotic.
