Perry, Iowa, in 1907 was a small farm-trade town in Dallas County, where the railroad shaped daily life. Grain, hogs, and cattle moved out by rail, and the depot and freight yards drew workers and businesses to the town's commercial blocks. Iowa farm prosperity was strong in these years, so merchants, hotels, and banks along the main streets served farm families who came in on weekends to shop, sell produce, and visit.
