Arras, a city in northern France, lay near the front line during the First World War, and its churches suffered heavily in the fighting. This view came from the Bain News Service, a New York picture agency that distributed news photographs in the early 1900s. The record gives no date, and the title comes from unverified caption data, so the identification of the building should be treated as provisional. Wartime and postwar images of Arras often showed damaged churches, which made such pictures powerful records of the destruction.
