This color postcard from 1909 takes its caption from a line of popular song: a suitor vows to phone Tilly and claim her for his own. The card shows a courting couple with a telephone, an object that was still a novelty in many American homes at the time. Postcards like this, printed in the H.E.L. Theochrom series, were mass-produced in the early 1900s, when color halftone printing had made cheap, colorful cards widely available. Sentimental scenes paired with sung lyrics were a common formula, so the card reflects both the romance of the day and the era's fascination with the new telephone.
