A stereograph pair taken near Deep Bottom, Virginia, in 1864 shows the transport *Linda* of Philadelphia alongside a monitor, a low-profile ironclad that the Union Navy used in the rivers and inlets of the James. The record suggests the monitor may be the *Onondaga*, though that identification is uncertain. Deep Bottom, on the James River below Richmond, was a staging area where Union supplies and troops moved during the Petersburg campaign that summer. Photographs like this one, taken by David B. Woodbury, record how the river supply line worked, and the two halves were meant to be viewed together through a stereoscope.
