A portrait of a man titled Señor Don Ignacio Calderón of Bolivia, this glass negative carries a name the National Photo Company supplied that has not been verified. The company operated as a commercial studio in Washington, D.C., in the early twentieth century, when the capital drew many visitors from Latin America who sat for formal portraits. The date range of 1909 to 1920 is inferred from neighboring negatives rather than from this plate alone. Streaks and blemishes across the glass come from natural deterioration of the original coatings, and they add an uneven texture worth noticing.
