Few star plates of the 1820s share the sky with a hot-air balloon, but this one, engraved by Hall for Jehoshaphat Aspin's *A Familiar Treatise on Astronomy*, pairs the constellations Aquarius and Piscis Australis with an aerostatic balloon. It was published in London in 1825 as plate 26 of the treatise. Balloon ascents were a popular public spectacle in Britain at the time, so the inclusion suggests the author wanted a familiar, modern image beside the old zodiac figures. The hand coloring, common in illustrated books of the period, adds to the plate's appeal.
