Unlike the street views and skylines elsewhere on this board, this photogravure is a portrait of a woman, and its record places it on page 9 of the June 1917 issue of *Camera Work*, the journal edited by Alfred Stieglitz. That double issue, numbered 49 and 50, was among the last the magazine published before it ended in 1917. Photogravure, an intaglio process printed from copper plates, was prized by Stieglitz and his circle for its soft, rich tonal range, so the shading and texture reward a close look.
