Titled "Roll of honor," this c1905 photoprint bears a copyright notice in the name of W.F. Van Loo, and its catalog tracings place it under child labor and newsboys. Street newsboys were a familiar sight in American cities at the time, many of them boys selling papers on corners for a few cents, and reformers often cited them as examples of children kept from school and exposed to traffic and bad company. Pictures of working children like this one circulated during the early campaigns for child labor laws, though the caption data here is old and unverified, so the exact location and circumstances remain uncertain.
