The only identifying detail here is the name Joan Parkenham, which the Library of Congress lists as unverified and taken from caption cards or negative sleeves supplied by the Bain News Service. The picture is a glass negative from George Grantham Bain's New York news agency, which sold photographs to newspapers from around the turn of the twentieth century. Such plates were fragile, and their edges and handwritten markings can show how a picture moved through the press.
