The most specific detail in this record is the name J.K. Hackett, though the Bain News Service took it from its own caption cards, and it has not been independently verified. Bain's New York agency sold news and portrait photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and its glass negatives were often made quickly for daily publication, so identifying sitters frequently depended on the slips that accompanied each plate. No date is recorded, so the picture is best placed within the general period of the service's activity, roughly the 1900s through the 1910s.
