The name Sampaio Correia is the only identifying detail here. It comes from unverified data the Bain News Service noted on the negative or its caption card, so the sitter's identity remains provisional. George Grantham Bain built his New York news photo agency around the turn of the twentieth century, supplying portraits and event pictures to newspapers for decades. Glass negatives of this small size were the standard tool of that work, valued for sharp detail and quick printing. Because agency captions were often written in haste, names and dates in these files are worth checking against other sources.
