Spring Grove, on the edge of Cincinnati, Ohio, was laid out in the 1840s as a garden cemetery meant for quiet walks as well as burial. This print, dated around 1858 in the catalog record, reflects the rural cemetery movement's taste for winding paths, trees, and open lawns set apart from the city. The record associates it with the Cincinnati firm Middleton, Strobridge & Co., but both the date and that attribution are noted as unverified, so it is best read as a period view of the grounds.
