Titled simply *The horse race*, this stereograph card dates to 1888 and is one of the many racing scenes issued for the Victorian parlor. George Barker, the copyright holder named on the card, produced a wide range of stereoviews, and the pair of nearly identical photographs on each card fuses into a single image with depth when viewed through a stereoscope. Horse racing was a popular subject in the 1880s, and cards like this one show how a public fascination with the sport reached middle-class homes.
