Little is recorded about this pitcher beyond his name, Johnny King, and his place on the 1913 reserve list of the Denver club, a minor league team in the Western League. The glass negative comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by a New York news photography agency that supplied pictures to newspapers and magazines in the early twentieth century. The title comes from unverified caption data, and the 1913 date rests on later research by baseball historians. Reserve lists recorded the players a club held under contract, so photographs like this one help researchers trace rosters from that period.
