This 1924 portrait shows William P. Connery, a Massachusetts Democrat who was in his first term in the House of Representatives when the picture was made. The print came from Underwood & Underwood, the New York firm whose studio and press photographs of politicians and public figures circulated widely in newspapers and magazines in the early twentieth century. Connery served in Congress until his death in 1937, so the portrait captures him early in a long run in Washington. The record's date and details come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified.
