Rowing and boats are the subject of this lithograph, and its slogan, "Pull together, men," turns a crew's teamwork into a call to enlist in the Navy. Smith & Porter Press printed it in Boston around 1917, the year the United States entered the First World War and the Navy began expanding quickly to meet its manpower needs. The City of Boston Committee on Public Safety issued the poster, one of many local wartime bodies that carried national recruiting appeals onto city streets and into public places.
